סרטי דיסני היו לאורך השנים מקור השראה פורה לאמנות וגם לפילוסופיה. העיסוק בדיסני היה מרכזי למשל בגיבושם של רעיונות כמו סימולקרה ואנימיזם. באמנות, דמויות כמו מיקי מאוס ודונלד דאק הופיעו כבר בעבודות של אנדי וורהול ורוי ליכטנשטיין. הן היו קשורות לא פעם בספקטקלים כמו "אוצרות מן הספינה הטרופה לא-תיאמן" – הפרויקט המגלומני שהציג דמיאן הירסט בוונציה ב-2017, או "דיסמלנד" (Dismaland) – פארק שעשועים לכל המשפחה שאינו מתאים לילדים, שהקים בנקסי על חורבותיו של פארק שעשועים נטוש על חוף בריסטול בבריטניה. גם בהקשר המקומי הופיעו לא פעם דמויותיהם של פינוקיו, שלגיה, פיטר פן וחבריהם בעבודות של אמנים ואמניות עכשוויים.

התערוכה "הממלכה הקסומה" יוצרת מרחב של ממלכה קסומה/מסויטת באמצעות הופעתן של דמויות המזוהות עם אולפני דיסני, אלא שבמקום האשליה של הקסם מופיעים בה המיזוגניה, האלימות, הפורנוגרפיה והגועל, באופן שמדגיש דווקא את האשפה המנטלית, את הדחפים הברבריים ואת המערכות הצרכניות והאידיאולוגיות שנמצאות ברקע.

Over the years, Disney movies have provided a fertile source of inspiration for art as well as philosophy. For instance, the preoccupation with Disney was central to the consolidation of ideas such as simulacra and animism. Characters like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck have already appeared in the works of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. They were often related to spectacles like "Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable" – the megalomaniac project Damian Hirst's presented in Venice in 2017 – or "Dismaland" – the family-oriented amusement park, which is unsuitable for children, built by Banksy on the ruins of an abandoned amusement park, on the beach at Bristol, England. Locally, too, the figures of Snow-white, Pinocchio, Peter Pan and their friends have showed up in works of contemporary artists.

The exhibition "The Magic Kingdom" creates a magical/nightmarish space by showing characters that are associated with the Disney Studios, but here the illusion of magic is replaced by misogyny, violence, pornography, and revulsion, in a manner that highlights the mental garbage, the barbaric impulses, and the consumerist and ideological systems that lurk in the background.
